London Baby!

After days and days of anticipation I finally saw my love again in London. Poor thing had been up for more than 24 hours when he picked me up at the airport. He was exhausted, but not me, I was so excited to see him again!

We stayed in a cute little hotel in Crawley, which is this adorable town that looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale. It was a cold night too.

Since our flight wasn't until 4pm the following day, we did some wandering around London. We saw some good sights like Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace. It was as much as we could take in while carrying around our heavy packs.

We made it to London Heathrow airport to fly to Paris. When we arrived we were welcomed by what can only be described as pure chaos. After finally figuring out which line to wait in, and waiting for almost an hour, we got up to the counter to find out that British Airways was not allowing anyone to check bags on any of their flights because of some serious system failure. They were giving customers the option of mailing their bags home or waiting another day in London. I asked the lady at the counter whether she thought it a good idea to take the Channel Tunnel, and she said that is what she would do. I also asked her how much it would cost, and she said around 50 pounds each. We were promised to get reimbursed for our plane tickets (about $75 each), so paying an extra $25 out of pocket to get to Paris that night didn't seem unreasonable.

After some confusion, we made it to the Eurostar train station and went to the counter to buy our tickets. It turned out that the tickets cost 155 pounds each, that is about $310 a person. Our trip was not starting out well. Very frustrated and having exhausted all other options, we had to buy the tickets. Don't worry, we sent British Airways a lovely email requesting refunds for the difference. Whether or not we will get it is another question. Nate is going to call them when he gets back in the states.
